ITT recently hosted the quarterly meeting of the national www.studentvolunteer.ie working group.
Representatives from NUIG, UL, UCC, IT Tallaght, TCD, DCU, UCD, Maynooth University, ITT and Campus Engage gathered to consider feedback on the website use by community civic society organisations, students, at each HEI and to agree a work plan for the next academic year.
Studentvolunteer.ie a Campus Engage led student volunteer database is a bespoke and innovative web-based social media tool to promote, manage, match and measure student volunteering activity in higher education.
Co-ordinated by Campus Engage, 10 HEIs have combined forces to develop a tool which supports each in enabling its students to engage with civic society, in keeping with the National Strategy for Higher Education 2030 which states that ‘Engagement with the wider community must become more firmly embedded in the mission of higher education institutions’.
This excellent tool will allow community organisations to post their volunteer positions, at ease from their office or the comfort of home, which will be accessible to students all over Ireland.
Students can access national and international volunteer positions through registering on the site, whereby they will also receive prompts of new volunteer positions as they arise.
ITT students can also log their volunteering hours on their dashboard, and can then easily apply for the President’s Civic Spirit Award. The following video clip captures the usefulness of this site, and the importance of student volunteers in our community.
