From the 08th of August of 2016 until the 11th of August of 2016 the first UFIT “Train the Trainers” course will take place at The Peruvian VIDENA-IPD and Bodytech Fitness Club Facilities in Lima, Perú, facilitated by Gerard Masdeu Yelamos, UNESCO Chair, IT Tralee, Ireland, and Paola Melgarejo Kennedy, Coordinator UFIT Project Perú for the UNESCO Chair. This is the starting point to kick off our UFIT programme - a social change movement aiming to increase fitness opportunities for people with disabilities and by that striving for more inclusion - in Peru and Latin America. After having launched UFIT in Marseille, France in October 19th 2015 in association with IHRSA’s 15th Annual European Congress and in Washington D.C., USA in May 2016, the UNESCO Chair in Inclusive Fitness is delighted to get the ball rolling in Perú which will be the first country in Latin America to embrace the UFIT programme.
Universal Fitness Innovation & Transformation (UFIT) is a global social change movement, led by the UNESCO Chair in Inclusive Fitness based at the Institute of Technology Tralee, Ireland. UFIT’s innovation aims to increase fitness opportunities for people with disabilities by connecting fitness clubs and centres; with local disability service providers and groups; and allied professionals guiding the process in a client-centred and bespoke manner while taking the fitness management and staff through an inclusive journey that builds their skills, knowledge and competency to facilitate the inclusion of All in their service offerings and operations. At the first launch of UFIT in Marseille in 2015 it was agreed that the Marseille Declaration would follow as an instrument to drive support for inclusion in the Fitness Sector. UFIT has been very well received by leaders in the fitness sector in Europe and the USA. UFIT is fully supported by IHRSA as the Global Fitness Industry Association with support of its National partners around the globe. The UNESCO Chair is committed to inclusivizing and increasing the UniversAbility© of the sector and is happy to have Bodytech, ANNPERU , The Municipality of Lima, FPFF and Special Olympics Perú as competent partners in Peru on board.
The “Train the Trainers” course will train representatives of our Peruvian partner organisations Bodytech, ANNPERU , The Municipality of Lima, FPFF and Special Olympics Perú to further roll out UFIT in Peru. Within the 3 modules (1) Why U?, (2) How do we FIT? and (3) What is IN it? the participants will be equipped with knowledge, competency and skills on how to inclusivize the fitness sector to then further train managers and fitness instructors after.
The UNESCO Chair in Inclusive Fitness thanks all partners and supporters, especially Lucha Villar from the National Paralympics Association of Peru or ANNPERU, and our other partners and collaborators and looks forward to seeing the UFIT programme carried out in Peru as the first Latin American country. Moreover, the UNESCO Chair is excited to see many more federations, organisations, groups and individuals signing the Marseille Declaration. The official UFIT Peru launch will take place the 10th of August at 12pm at the VIDENA facilities, a group of the local Peruvian media will be invited.
