Six Munster Technological University (Kerry Campus) staff were the recipients of Teaching Hero Awards last week in a virtual ceremony live streamed across social media from Dublin. Prof Muiris O’Laoire, Margaret Finch and Dr Patrick McGarty from the School of Health and Social Sciences along with colleagues Feargus Dunne, Fiona Tobin, and Ashley Gaskin from the School of Business and Computing were among the six award winners that were shortlisted from over 2,500 nominations from 32 higher education institutions across Ireland.
The awards are organised by the National Forum of Teaching and Learning in collaboration with the Union of Students in Ireland and college students’ unions nationwide and provide an opportunity for students across the country to recognise and celebrate outstanding teaching in Irish higher education institutions.
In announcing the awardees, a spokesperson for the National Forum of Teaching and Learning said “Given the challenges faced by both students and all those who teach this year we feel it is important that all our Teaching Heroes are duly recognised”.
Petrina Comerford, President of the MTU (Kerry Campus) Student’s Union stated “a massive congratulations to Muiris, Margaret, Pat, Fiona, Feargus and Ashley”. Their awards are a testament to their work ethic and unwavering dedication to our students.”
As the academic year comes to a close, Ms Comerford also wished to thank all the teaching, administration, management and support staff on the Kerry campus for all their dedication and hard work for students during such a challenging year for education.
