As part of National Science Week, Kerry Science Festival, funded by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) and led by IT Tralee, will host a programme of free public engagement events, workshops, science shows, talks, laboratory demonstrations, science walks and other science-related events to demonstrate how science can inspire and enable people to act positively to mitigate climate change
Themed “A Prospective on Climate Change” Kerry Science Festival will feature over 40 events developed in collaboration with industry, businesses, public bodies, schools, libraries, teachers, researchers and students throughout the County.
Highlights at this year’s Kerry Science Festival 2019 include an ‘Effects of Climate Change’ VR experience, a ‘Climate Hack’ for second level students, advanced biotechnology food and cosmetic testing, a climate-themed movie screening, the Eccentric Energy Show, and a range of other events in partnership with Killarney National Park, Tralee Bay Wetlands, Dingle Seaworld, Dairymaster, Enercon, and Tralee Chamber Alliance, among others.
IT Tralee will also host a flagship event as part of the Festival, consisting of a ‘Women in STEM’ Careers event and a Climate Change Family Showcase.
The Women in STEM careers event will take place at IT Tralee’s North Campus on Friday November 15th from 6-9pm and will include a careers discussion for females of all ages to understand how a career in STEM goes beyond numbers, equations and lab coats! Participants will get the opportunity to engage in discussion, learn something new, and meet others females who have made significant leaps in their STEM careers.
The following day, on Saturday November 16th, a family showcase event will take place at IT Tralee’s North Campus. This daylong event offers a vast array of fun, educational and interactive events for all age’s including VR experiences, scientific testing, robotics, weather forecasting, electric vehicle display, sustainable food making, zoology, book reading, children’s sustainable recycling workshop, slime experiments and much more. A full day of family fun is guaranteed!
