Ada Lovelace Day which occurred on 8 October 2019 celebrates the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). As part of the celebrations, the Department of Computing at the Institute of Technology Tralee hosted a networking lunch for the female students and graduates from the Departments of Computing, Creative Media and Information Technology on Friday 11 October. This event was sponsored by Microsoft Ireland.
Three notable graduates from the Department of Computing at IT Tralee returned to their alma mater to speak about their career paths and offer advice to students and recent graduates on their career choices. These were Ellen O'Neill, Principal Program Manager, Microsoft, Louise Buckley, Global Director, DELL EMC Global Business Operations and Marta Doberschuetz O'Shaughnessy, Software Developer, Continuum Commerce Solutions, Tralee.
At the same time for the male students and graduates, Mr Stephen Howell, Accessibility Lead from Microsoft Ireland gave a talk titled "The Geek Shall Inherit the Earth" - future careers in Computing and their impact on society.
