The aim of this project is to enhance the feedback and assessment experience for both staff and students at MTU, building and expanding on BALI (Building Assessment Literacy Initiative). Assessment and Feedback Literacy Initiative
This initiative, completed AY2021 September to December by Margaret Finch stemmed from an original initiative ‘Assessment AS OF and FOR Learning – Developing Assessment Literacy’ designed by Dr Tom Farrelly funded in 2019. Staff and Students on Kerry Campus participated in sharing their assessment and feedback experiences. Resulting in a number of outcomes: development and dissemination of , development and piloting of student champions as student voice representatives, identification of areas of teaching and learning support requirements and identification of staff professional development skills and needs.

Have you an idea to improve our student and/or staff engagement, partnership, teaching, learning, assessment and feedback experiences?
The Assistant Registrar and Head of Student Engagement Office of Vice President Academic Affairs and Registrar is invites applications from MTU individuals or small teams from schools/departments/central services for funding, of up to €2000, to develop projects that positively impact on teaching, learning, assessment, feedback and student engagement.
All applications should show commitment to universal design principals. We are particularly interested in receiving applications for funding around the following themes/approaches:
- Teaching, Assessment and Feedback
- Embedding Universal Design in curriculum
- Embedding Sustainable Developmental Goals
- Student-staff collaboration
- Inter/Cross-Disciplinary collaboration
- Student Transitions
WHAT FUNDING STREAMS ARE AVAILABLE?
There are three funding streams available as follows:
- Teaching and Learning Development Fund- for projects that seek to enhance any aspect of Teaching and Learning experience.
- Learning Community Fund - for groups of like-minded individuals to meet and learn together, sharing ideas through workshops, conferences or resource development.
- Student Transitions Fund- for projects that impact any aspect of transitions that students experience. For example adjusting socially/academically into first year; settling into second, third or final year of their studies; moving from undergraduate to postgraduate study; departing to/returning from periods of work placement to full time study; adjusting from employment into full-time or part-time study.
HOW MUCH FUNDING IS AVAILABLE?
Up to €2000,
WHAT DOES THE FUNDING COVER?
Examples of what is funded: meeting costs, materials, equipment, software, travel, conference fees, printing, visiting speakers/facilitators fee, student costs, printing, and marketing.
Examples of what is not funded: funding cannot be used to buy out lecturing time of staff.
WHAT IS EXPECTED OF SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS?
When an applicant is successful in receiving funding, the following is required:
- Allocation spent and receipted in line with all MTU policies
- Provision of a brief case study for sharing with others to enhance further innovation.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM US?
Support in developing application ideas
- Support drawing down funds
- Support to link and share with other successful applicants.
- Support to explore how the initiative might, if appropriate, be mainstreamed so as to have maximum impact on the MTU community
